Bobi Wine has urged Ugandans to wait for his signal for the start of a revolution that will oust President Yoweri Museveni.
Speaking in Arua on Wednesday September 13th, 2023, Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, insisted that it’s high time people stop saying ‘Museveni must go’ and put their words into action by rising up to fight him.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) party leader noted that if Ugandans rise up against Museveni they would end his 37 year reign in power.
“We are all saying Museveni must go, but the next step is for us to change these words into action. I want you to be ready. When you see a signal, come out of your houses and join the rest of the Ugandans, and that will be the end of Museveni,” Bobi Wine said.
Bobi reminded the people of Arua that they have the capacity to oust Museveni and that his time is already up.
He further urged them not to be afraid of the soldiers because they are suffering as well and that some who talk to him have encouraged him to continue with the fight to oust Museveni.
“You have the power to chase away Museveni anytime you want. The time for Museveni to go was long ago. Don’t fear Museveni; don’t fear his people. Don’t fear his soldiers; they are all on our side. They are suffering like we are, and they will join us,” he said.
NUP’s president said the present generation should be the last to be killed and no one should be held accountable for it, emphasizing that whoever fights Museveni is a friend for the people and whoever supports him is an enemy.
Bobi Wine has been traversing the country in a mobilization drive for NUP and opening up new party offices across the country.
His visit to Arua was strategically placed last because the party leaders believe Arua is the genesis of NUP’s strength.
In August 2018, it was in Arua that Bobi Wine survived an assassination attempt on his life that spared not his driver Yasin Kawuma.
That same Wednesday, police suspended Bobi Wine’s countrywide tour.
“In areas where Bobi Wine has been, there have been total breaches to the guidelines, thus causing public disorder, unnecessary traffic jams, loss of business, malicious damage to property, for instance, in Mbarara City, their rowdy supporters vandalized a Toyota Hiace, under registration number UBD 251J, and traffic accidents, including a fatal one in Hoima City on September 11, 2023, where one, Mugisa Norman, died and 10 others got serious injuries, during the NUP convoy,” Deputy Inspector General of Police Tumusiime-Katsigazi said in a statement Wednesday.
“In Kasana-Luweero District, the mobilization activity was used to incite violence, promote sectarianism, make illegitimate calls for the removal of an elected government, and issuance of defamatory statements against the person of H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda.
“In view of the above blatant breaches of the guidelines, the activities of the NUP are immediately suspended,” the statement added.
