Why Atwoli Has Reconsidered Fighting Karua In Court Over Color Purple

Martha Karua rebranded her political party from Narc Kenya to People’s liberation Party. Among the major changes made in the party was settling for color purple as one of the party’s official color.
Other colors are lilac and white, replacing Narc Kenya’s green, red and white. The party also chose a purple rose as its symbol.

During the rebranding on Thursday, Karua explained why the party settled for color purple as one of its colors.

“We have retained its flower symbol and the motto as revealed in the past. Purple is a rallying call for unity amid political divisions. It is what we are seeing in the country. We welcome all to come and join this home. We are beefing up this story and more details,” she said.

The party’s choice of color however caused a clash with the Central Organization for Trade Unions (COTU), as purple is the organization’s national color.

Apparently, the organization was heading to court to sue Karua and her freshly launched party . However, the decision has been reconsidered according to COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli.

Atwoli, during a media briefing on Friday, said that the organization chose not to legally pursue Karua after much deliberations, as going to court would have only be beneficial to Karua.

“We have a patent lettrr to that, but after weighing out, we have said that sometimes, when we get in seriously, we will be building Martha Karua for nothing. We will make her appear as if she can create an impact on the Kenyan masses as far as Kenyan politics is concerned,” he said.

He noted that COTU is bigger than any political party in the country and that Karua’s party was doomed to fail, just like the others who infringed COTU’s colours previously.

“COTU is represented here and internationally. We cannot lower ourselves to a size non-understandable. The other day, this person known as Dr. Mutua my minister of Labour, he tried using our colour, is his party still trending? Even Martha’s is doomed because she has no supporters,” Atwoli said.
