He was elected as the Governor of Nairobi County in August 2022 after winning the Nairobi gubernatorial by-election. Prior to his election as Governor, Sakaja was a Member of Parliament for the Nairobi County’s Senatorial seat from 2017 to 2022.
He got elected for his close connection with the youth and residents of Nairobi. He rose to fame fast for his efforts in youth empowerment, championing for devolution, and advocating for good governance in Kenya.
