Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has revealed that the father of the new UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is from Ukambani region.
Sunak, who is of Indian heritage and has Kenyan roots, became the Prime Minister of the UK on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.
Sunak’s rise to power elicited the Barack Obama moment for Indians and Africans because of his roots.
Rishi Sunak was born on 12 May 1980 in Southampton, UK. His father Usher Sanak was born and raised in Kenya when it was still a British colony while his mother Usha Sunak was born in Tanzania when it was a British territory and was then known as Tanganyika.
Sunak’s grandparents were born in Punjab province, British India. They migrated from East Africa with their families to the UK in the 1960s.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Sonko claimed that Sunak’s father hails from Ukambani, nothing that the new British PM even resembles notable leaders from the region.
“Just like Obama, the newly elected UK P.M Rishik Sunak had a Kenyan father believed to have hailed from either kwa vonza, kitui or kaiti, makueni. No wonder he resembles @DanielMaanzo
hapo kwa mapua na mdomo & Hon. Nimrod Mbai kwa forehead. Kumbe sherehe na usherati haijaanza sai,” Sonko tweeted.
