Ugandan men on social media on Wednesday took to their social media handles to urge president Yoweri Museveni to fasten the arrival of Afghanistan women so that they “swing into action.”
Their request to president Museveni came in the wake of Uganda accepting to host 2,000 Afghanistan refugees amongst them men and women
“I have been seeing our men here in Uganda pray for the safe landing of Afghanistan refugees at Entebbe International Airport and even sharing various photos of ladies. They are promising total support and cooperation with government this time on this project! Hope it’s not Stingy Men Association.” Posted one Tweeter user.
“I cant wait for these beautiful Afghanistan women to arrive then i take one for myself permanently. I hope their three month stay will be extended and even be given citizenship”
Another man posted: “President Museveni should be serious and process the arrival of the Afghanistan women and children so that they can find peace here in our nation. Does he know that he is risking their lives in Afghanistan since they cannot fight like men? We will even go and welcome the women at the airport because men can sort themselves out.”
Uganda’s State Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees Esther Anyakun had on Tuesday said that
President Yoweri Museveni had agreed to grant refugee status to people fleeing Afghanistan following a request by the US government.
“We expect to host them temporarily before they can be relocated elsewhere by the US government. It was a request from US government to His Excellency. We started the preparation on Monday, August 16. “We are expecting they might come any time since it’s an emergency landing. They have requested us to host 2,000. They will be received in shifts,” she added.
In the meantime, the world awaits to see if President Yoweri Museveni will hasten the arrival of Afghanistan women as requested by the Ugandan men.
