Ezekiel Mutua has only been MCSK CEO for a few days and already musicians led by Sauti Sol want him kicked out of the post.
Ezekiel Mutua was appointed new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) on 25th March 2022.
Mutua fell from grace to grass after Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) dismissed him from his position as its CEO.
The moral cop moved to court last year challenging the decision by the Board to fire him from his position and replace him with an acting CEO pending the appointment of a new substantive CEO.
KFCB appointed Christopher Wambua to act as its chief executive officer to replace Mutua in August last year.
However, on 2nd February 2022 Employment and Labour Relation Court Judge Maureen Onyango dismissed his application. She ruled that the Board erred in appointing him for a further five years when he had exhausted two terms of three years each.
On realizing he wouldn’t get back his KFCB job, Mutua tried his luck somewhere and applied for a job with MCSK.
The former moral cop was appointed MCSK CEO after a rigorous selection process. However, musicians want him out already.
Ezekiel Mutua clashed with so many artists during his days as KFCB CEO as he raised the moral bar quite high, a move that made him christened moral cop and even deputy jesus.
Mutua’s appointment as MCSK CEO has been met by fierce resistance from musicians with Sauti Sol voicing the strongest opposition.
Sauti Sol singers Bien and Chimano openly expressed their disappointments with the appointment for the former moral cop as MCSK CEO
“Ezekiel Mutua’s appointment is a disappointment. What did he do for film? Kenya continues to elevate mediocrity. This is just sad,” Bien lamented.
“Ezekiel Mutua’s appointment is such nonsense… Recycling bin inc. That’s what we are…” Chimano wrote.
