News anchor Mark Masai was among dozens of senior journalists who were fired by Nation Media Group (NMG) in its latest retrenchment.
Big names including senior editors are among the journalists that NMG has laid off as it trims its payroll.
The media house started issuing redundancy letters to employees earmarked for the sack just hours after NMG Group CEO Stephen Gitagama, issued a notice of reorganisation in a circular on 30th November, 2022.
In the notice, Gitagama warned that the changes would be ‘unsettling’ but necessary in building the NMG of the future.
Veteran NTV news anchor Mark Masai was among dozens senior journalists who were shown the door by NMG.
Masai was laid off after 14 years of working for the Kimathi street-based media house.
The veteran news anchor hilariously reacted to his firing through a post on social media.
Masai, while dancing to the restructuring music, said that he was only going for a short commercial break and that he would be back soon.
“NTV Kenya is a great team! These are different times. Was a great show. Time for short a commercial break. I’ll be back! #FadeToBlack #StayTuned,” Mark Masai tweeted.
