DJ Lastborn, a legendary and iconic reggae DJ has passed away.
He started jam sessions in Nyanza House brand name (Dj Lastborn and Simple Simon) back in the day.
The iconic DJ passed away in his sleep on Friday, March 3, 2023, at the age of 43, according to his sister Lillian Anyango.
“I was with him on Thursday and we talked about so many things. He seemed so energetic and after having dinner he requested us to take him to bed.”
“Ever since he suffered a stroke in 2017 I have been taking care of him and there had been tremendous improvement,” her sister said.
After experiencing two strokes unfortunately, he has been ill for a while. His speech and vision were impacted by the second stroke incident, which he encountered in 2019.
According to reports, Ian, Lillian’s son, popped in to check on Lastborn on Friday morning as he frequently did but assumed he was asleep so he went to a local store to purchase him some essentials.
A few moments later, his caregiver entered the room and noticed that the DJ had remained in the same spot from the previous night. She promptly called Lillian, who called an ambulance.
Fyah Mummah Jahmby Koikai has mourned the legendary DJ saying.
“There was reggae played everywhere in downtown, Nairobi Two friends came up with a different style, started jam sessions in Nyanza House.”
“Then came the Missile mixtapes, Dj Lastborn in the mix. Then he started touring internationally and made some of us dream that we could make it with reggae.”
She continues to say, “Black Supremacy was the biggest and baddest sound system. He was larger than life and filled a room with his laughter.
He also mentored and trained other DJ’s during his era of greatness and beyond.
“Ask Selector Technix how he taught him how to mix….funny but very great lesson,” adds Fyah Mummah.
“I pray for grace, strength and God’s guidance. Fare thee well LB. May the Most High God rest your soul in eternal perfect peace.” she finally celebrates and appreciates his contribution to the industry.
His body was taken to Jocham Funeral Home, Mombasa.
Condolences to family, friends and fans.
Rest In Peace Legend.
