Akothee, Azziad,Churchill, Wahu and others had been appointed for a period of three years as Talanta Hela Committee members.
TikToker Azziad Nasenya, musicians Akothee and Wahu Kagwi, and comedian Daniel ‘Churchill’ Ndambuki have been prevented from assuming their roles on the Talanta Hela Creatives Technical Committee under Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba.
On Monday, the implementation of the Talanta Hela program, initiated by Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba with the approval of President William Ruto, was temporarily halted by the High Court.
President Ruto officially formed the Talanta Hela Council on February 10, 2023, as stated in Kenya Gazette Notice.
Justice Lawrence Mugambi has issued an order suspending the Talanta Hela Councils until a case brought forward by creative enthusiast Charles Mugane is resolved.
Mugane approached the court in March, raising concerns about legal and constitutional irregularities in the formation of the council. He also accused Namwamba of favoritism in the appointment process.
According to Mugane’s application, Namwamba allegedly handpicked committee members without considering any criteria, such as merit.
The petitioner further argued that the appointments violated Section 10 of the Constitution.
The purpose of the council was to nurture talent at the grassroots level.
The council consisted of two factions: a sports technical committee headed by seasoned sports journalist Carol Radull, and another committee focused on creatives in the leadership of comedian Churchill.
