ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has apologized to Maragua MP Mary Wamaua over the hostile reception during the Azimio la Umoja Convention.
The convention was held on Friday, December 10, at the Kasarani stadium whereby ODM leader Raila Odinga announced that he will be vying for presidency in the coming general for the fifth time. That will also be the last time the former prime minister will be giving his shot at the country’s top position.
Wamaua, a vocal supporter of DP William Ruto, was forced to leave the event after being mishandled by the security guards.
Sifuna however said that Wamaua should have told the ODM team that she would be joining the convention in order to avoid such an incident.
“This regrettable incident could have been avoided if only she let us know in advance that she would be joining us. We have received dozens of defectors from UDA before, but with prior arrangement to ensure their intention is not misunderstood. Pole sana Mhesh,” Sifuna said on twitter.
Wamaua was roughed up by the security guards who denied her access to the area designated for delegates.
In a video that was circulated in social media, Wamaua could be heard reprimanding the guards for harassing her like that yet she was a legislator.
“How can you push me around like a bag of potatoes when I am an elected legislator?” the vocal supporter of DP Ruto questioned.
She urged the security officers to exercise humility because that is one of things Kenyans will look at when voting for the next president.
“If you can do this right now, how will you act if you clinch the presidency next year?” Wamaua posed and vowed to never forget the disrespect she was shown at Kasarani.
