Radio Jambo presenter Daniel Githinji Mwangi alias Mbusii Deh met his wife while she was still a student at Kapsabet Girls’ High School and it was love at first sight.
Mbusii had gone to Kapsabet Girls’ High School to act set books when he met his wife who was still a student in form four.
The Radio Jambo presenter fell for the underage but he didn’t act on his feelings, he chose to wait for her to finish high school.
“She liked me, and I told her maliza shule ukuje tusurvive (finish school first and come we start a family),” Mbusii said in an interview with Churchill.
Mbusii said he told his future wife that he stayed in Korogocho slums but she had no idea it was a ghetto.
“She asked me where I was living and I told her Korogocho but she didn’t know the place.”
Mbusii’s wife completed form four but she didn’t go to stay with him in Nairobi like they had planned, she went to Uganda to study for two years.
The two met again at the Kenya National Theatre when she came back to Kenya and Mbusii didn’t let her go.
“I saw her nikamuambia sikuwachi sasa. Kwanza akanipea fare nikajua sasa ndipo. Tukaanzana hivo sasa (I told her I wasn’t going to leave her again, and she gave me fare to go home. That’s when we started dating,” said Mbusii.
The Radio Jambo presenter impregnated his wife and she ran away from her parents’ home and joined him in Korogocho slums, where he was living.
Mbusii said they lived in a mabati house in Korogocho slums with his pregnant sweetheart who was forced to stop her studies in campus.
“Alitoroka kwao akiwa na ball na wazazi hawakujua. Ikabidi awache shule kidogo (She ran away from home when she was pregnant). After giving birth, we took care of our baby, and later I sent her back to school,” he narrated.
Mbusii further disclosed that his wife’s parents reported him to police that he had kidnapped their daughter, but they later agreed to let her go.
The two lovebirds are now blessed with three children together (all girls) Sandra, who is in class eight, Stacey in class six and lastborn Melanie in class two.
