Tanasha Donna has shared how becoming a mother has transformed her outlook on life, offering a candid reflection on the joys and challenges she has faced.
Speaking to a Rwandan news station in anticipation of her upcoming album release, Donna described motherhood as a life-changing experience that provided her with a newfound sense of purpose.
“Parenting can be a challenge, but it is the best challenge a person can have,” Donna said.
“Motherhood is the proudest thing that ever happened to me. It changed my life, making everything no longer about me but about someone else now—my son, Naseeb Jr.”
Despite the pride and joy of motherhood, Donna acknowledged the difficulties she encountered, especially being a first-time mother out of wedlock. As the former partner and co-parent with Tanzanian musician Diamond Platnumz, she faced unique challenges navigating her new role.
“Challenges can arise, particularly when it is your first time being a mother and you’re also stepping out of a marriage,” she explained. “It means becoming a single mother [albeit with the support of Naseeb’s father]. Even though Naseeb Jr. regularly visits his father, I am primarily responsible for him. The main challenge is there is no manual for being a mother. You can’t be perfect; you learn as you go.”
Donna and Diamond Platnumz ended their relationship in 2020, shortly after welcoming their son, Naseeb Jr., who bears a striking resemblance to his father. Reflecting on her journey, Donna emphasized the importance of adapting and growing through the experiences of motherhood.
As she prepares to release her new album next week, Tanasha Donna’s reflections on motherhood add depth to her artistic narrative, highlighting her resilience and dedication to her son.
Her story serves as an inspiration to many, showing that despite the challenges, motherhood can bring profound changes and a renewed sense of purpose.
