Radio Jambo’s Liondeh has been admitted in hospital battling same condition that saw Akuku Danger hospitalized for almost two months.
Cyrus Afune alias Liondeh was admitted at Komarock Modern Hospital Utawala with acute sickle cell anemia.
An urgent medical appeal for blood donation was made by Liondeh’s colleague Mbusii who posted on social media about the condition of his co-host.
“URGENT MEDICAL APPEAL, Lion Deh HAS BEEN ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL WITH SEVERE ANAEMIA AND REQUIRES BLOOD DONATION, BLOOD GROUP O -POSITIVE @ KOMAROCK MODERN HOSPITAL UTAWALA… KINDLY ASSIST AND KEEP HIM IN YOUR PRAYERS,” wrote Mbusii.
Liondeh’s condition is reminiscent of comedian Akuku Danger who is also battling chronic anemia.
Sickle cell anemia is a chronic condition which lasts through a person’s lifetime.
Anaemia is a deficiency in the number or quality of red blood cells in the body. Red blood cells carry oxygen around the body using a particular protein called haemoglobin. Anaemia means that either the level of red blood cells or the level of haemoglobin is lower than normal – this leads to reduced oxygen flow to the body’s organs.
People with anemia may require blood transfusions to replenish blood loss. Medication to induce blood formation may also be used if the body’s blood production is reduced.
Just like Liondeh who is currently admitted in hospital, Akuku Danger was also admitted in hospital in late December 2021 after his condition worsened.
Akuku was ultimately discharged from Nairobi West Hospital on January 27th 2022 and allowed to go home even though he owed the facility a lot of money.
By the time he was being discharged, Akuku’s bill had accrued to Ksh2 million. A fundraiser was held but didn’t raise the full amount.
