Citizen TV presenter Willis Raburu parted with nearly Ksh1 million to undergo surgery to lose weight.
Raburu underwent gastric bypass surgery which usually costs between Ksh600,000 and Ksh900,000.
The Citizen TV presenter resorted to going under the knife to lose weight after hitting the gym failed to yield desired results.
Speaking during a recent interview, Raburu admitted that his problem was eating a lot of food and that no matter how much he worked out at the gym he simply couldn’t lose weight.
“I have no issue with discipline in terms of when I commit to going to the gym. It’s just when I do not go for a week or two, it’s very easy to gain the weight back. It is an issue with my relationship with food and that is where the problem is. You have heard it said that it’s all about the kitchen more than the gym so that is how it has been,” he said.
Gastric bypass surgery helped Raburu because he can eat as much as he wants without adding weight.
Gastric bypass is a type of weight-loss surgery that involves creating a small pouch from the stomach and connecting the newly created pouch directly to the small intestine.
Gastric bypass surgery shrinks the size of your stomach, so you can’t eat as much as you used to. The surgeon will also re-route, or bypass, part of your digestive system so you don’t absorb as much food. [sic]
Raburu, however, explained he is yet to fully recover from undergoing gastric bypass surgery and as such he is still not allowed to do some things like drinking alcohol.
“Recommended [not drinking alcohol] is one year. Also, eating smaller portions is almost guaranteed because of your smaller stomach. For a while, you can’t go to the gym, and when you do go back, you start slow and work into it,” he said.
