“If family members take very sick people to church, you cannot hold the pastor responsible for the death,” Pastor Ezekiel Odero’s lawyer argues.
With the hope that Pastor Ezekiel Odero would be set free, many churchgoers were recorded on video loudly praying and singing outside the court.
Following the exhumation of bodies from shallow graves in Shakahola Forest, Kilifi County, Mr. Mackenzie from Good News International (GNI) church and Pastor Odero from New Life Prayer Center and Church have been implicated in 109 deaths.
Pastor Ezekiel Odero was arrested at his church in Mavueni, Kilifi County last Thursday and is currently being held at Port Police Station. He was presented in court on Friday, where the prosecution requested that he be detained for 30 days.
The court announced that it will make a ruling on the matter today, which is Tuesday, May 2, 2023 thus the huge turn out by his supporters.
The prosecution team made a shocking accusation during the trial, linking the two preachers and alleging that they co-owned a television station which they used to propagate radicalization messages.
This revelation sparked outrage and disbelief among those present in the courtroom. It was a disturbing accusation that, if proven true, could have serious consequences not just for the preachers involved but for the wider community.
The gravity of the situation has left many feeling uneasy and uncertain about the future of their miraculous man.
Jared Magolo, Odero’s lawyer, expressed his outrage and frustration at the prosecution’s lack of evidence linking his client to Makenzi. He vehemently accused the prosecution of going on fault force with baseless allegations.
“You cannot blame a pastor for the death of a churchgoer if family members themselves take very sick people to the church, which is always the last resort,” he said.
Mr Magolo was not willing to stand by and let his client be falsely accused and unjustly punished.
