Details of Pastor Ezekiel Odero’s interrogation have now emerged following his arrest on Thursday, April 27, 2023.
The popular preacher was arrested on Thursday morning and questioned by sleuths attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at the Coastal Police Headquarters in Mombasa County.
Police were interested to know why members of Pastor Ezekiel’s New Life International Church in Kilifi County have been dying in their numbers.
According to sources within the DCI who spoke to the media on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, Pastor Ezekiel told detectives that people who have ever died in his church were taken there while critically ill.
The clergyman was also questioned on why he did not report the deaths to the police before taking the bodies to the mortuary.
The pastor said he did not know that reporting the deaths to the police was the procedure.
The preacher was grilled after detectives questioned the management of Milele Funeral Home in Mavueni which is situated near his church.
Pastor Ezekiel’s lawyer Jared Magolo also failed to inform journalists whether there is a relationship between Pastor Odero and cult leader Paul Mackenzie of Good News International Church.
“I don’t know,” the lawyer said.
