Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has made a public appeal to young men urging them to stop sending her unsolicited explicit images.
Speaking at an event on October 29, 2024, Passaris expressed her frustration with the influx of inappropriate photos sent by some young men, many of whom, she noted, are significantly younger than herself.
She criticized the assumption by some men that such behavior could somehow win her attention or favor, instead calling it a lack of respect and a violation of personal boundaries.
Passaris, who is 60, highlighted that some of the messages and images she receives show a lack of manners among young people who think sending lewd photos will make a positive impression.
She used her platform to remind these men that she is not only a public figure but also someone of an age that warrants respect, much like they would show their own mothers.
“Ata mimi kama mweshimiwa, saa zingine vijana wananikosea heshima. Unajua saa ile waliweka number yangu kwa mtendao wakaanza kusalamia kila mtu. Wamenitumia mapicha ya vitu ambayo sijui ata wanafikiria ni nini hio kitu lazima niangalie. Wengine wananiambia wako na mainches, inches za inches,” Passaris lamented.
Adding that;
“Sasa mimi najiuliza wewe ni kijana kama mtoto wangu. Mimi niko na miaka sitini alafu unaniambia uko na inches alafu unatoa suruali unachukua picha ata haijasimama unanitumia. Unaniambia nifanye nini na hio kitu? Alafu ata si yako, umechukua picha kutoka mtandao kwa sababu hio yako huwezi kupiga picha kwa sababu ata picha haionekani. Vijana muwe na heshima tafadhali.”
Drawing on biblical values, she encouraged young men to honor and respect elders in the community, insisting that anyone who is old enough to be a parent deserves respect.
“Mujue Mungu halali.Bibilia inasema honour your mother and your father. Haijasema birth mother, birth father, haijasema mother a father ule amekuzaa, ni honour your mother and your father, mtu yoyote ambaye anaweza kuwa mama yako kwa sababu rika, mtu yoyote ambaye anaweza kuwa baba yako kwa sababu ya rika unafaa umpatie heshima.Saile vijana munakosea wamama heshima au munakosea wababa heshima mujue Mungu anawaona.Na Mungu akiona umefanya vibaya hawezi kufurahi na Maisha yako haiwezi kuenda vizuri,” she said.
In addition to addressing this issue, Passaris responded to critics who target her political stance, affirming that she intends to fulfill her full term.
She called for patience and emphasized that there is no need for hostility, asserting that her commitment to public service remains strong.
