Parliament Goes After The Company That Sold Moses Kuria The Leg Warming Blanket

The National Committee on Health will begin investigations on how Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria ended up burning his feet.

This is after Members of Parliament led by South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro asked the committee to investigate the company that sold Kuria the leg warming blanket which caused him physical harm.

According to Osoro, the committee has a duty to protect Kenyans from such harmful products.

He further questioned the role of the government regulatory bodies such as KEBS and PPB.

“Could the chair provide a list of all the products being sold in the country and confirm if all the products by the company have been approved by both the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) and the Kenya Bureau of Standards(KEBS),” Osoro inquired.

The chair of the Committee Sabina Chege responded to Osoro’s questions by saying that they will look into the matter.

“My committee has taken that issue seriously and we will respond. I personally visited Moses Kuria yesterday and he gave me the story on what happened,” Chege stated.

She also said that the reason why they will carry out the investigation is also to protect Kenyans.

“It is not just for the purpose of Moses Kuria, but for many Kenyans who are exposed to such devices not only for the company that has been mentioned. We are going to protect citizens,” she said.

She asked MPs to also investigate and give the committee feedback about their findings on such products.

“I have seen in various shopping centers that those things are being sold. let them(MPs) also investigate and inform the committee on what is happening,” she said.

Due to the urgency of the matter, the MPS denied the committee three weeks to carry out their investigations despite Chege’s request insisting that it was a weighty matter and they needed more time.

Kuria revealed that he had used the blanket which he bought for Kshs250, 000 to warm his feet which were experiencing numbness.

“I was first told that you connect it to the power, which I did. I connected it to power and stepped on it. At night, my legs raptured and I had to be rushed to hospital the following day,” Kuria said in an interview.
