“I was driving on Mombasa Road and I thought about causing an accident,” Okari said.
Dennis Okari opened up about the suicidal thoughts that plagued him following his divorce from fellow journalist Betty Kyallo.
Speaking at the Jubilee Christian Church at the weekend, Okari admitted that his divorce with the mother of his daughter which came just six months after their lavish wedding affected him a lot.
The seasoned investigative journalist revealed that he once thought of crashing his car to get in a coma and forget his ordeal.
“I was driving on Mombasa Road and I thought about causing an accident with my car so that I would go into a coma, and when I woke up, it would all be gone. I looked for a stone on the road but I couldn’t see it that night,” Okari said.
“You never get married to get divorced,” he added.
Okari said he was very worried about how he would deal with his relatives after his marriage crumbled just a few months after the wedding.
He admitted that he was afraid of being seen as a broken man and did not know how to cope.
Okari said that it took him a long time to deal with the stigma that followed the divorce and said it was difficult when he was interrupted in the church.
“I found myself in a place where my fellow brothers told me, ‘Dennis, you cannot serve the church to a certain extent when you are a divorcee’,” Okari said.
The former NTV journalist said he found it difficult to trust another woman after his marriage ended and revealed that it took him about three years to deal with the hatred and the divorce process.
However, later he was able to fall in love again and meet his wife Naomi who is his current wife and co-parent.
Dennis Okari and Betty Kyallo dated for about four years before they tied the knot in a lavish wedding on October 2, 2015 at Marula Manor Gardens, Karen Street, Nairobi. Unfortunately, the two journalists decided to part ways and go their separate ways just six months later, leaving many Kenyans in shock.
During their time together, the two were blessed with a beautiful daughter together, Ivanna who they now co-parent.
Betty and Okari went their separate ways just six months after their wedding, infidelity was reportedly the cause of their breakup.
Betty cheated with Hassan Joho and when her ex husband Okari found out he divorced her immediately.
After her marriage crumbled around April 2016, Betty and Joho got into a serious relationship as Okari also moved on.
Okari remarried in February 2019, he tied the knot with Joy Naomi in an invite-only ceremony held at a location on Kiambu Road.
