Obinna beat other contestants including Dr. Ofweneke to replace Jalang’o who quit his job at Kiss FM to contest for Langata parliamentary seat.
Speaking to fellow comedian 2Mbili on his YouTube channel after announcing he had joined Kiss FM, Obinna opened up about his salary.
“I did not say anything, but what I will say is, it is somewhere between… but what I want to say is, what I’m being paid is good let’s say it is 6 times what I was being paid previously,” Obinna said.
Radio Africa Group, which owns Kiss FM, Classic FM and several other stations, pays its presenters a 6-figure salary.
Jalang’o joined Kiss FM in August 2020 and it was reported that he was only among special presenters who were earning a 7-figure salary.
A reliable source who saw his contract revealed that Jalango’s monthly salary was Ksh1.2 million, which was slightly below what Classic FM’s Maina Kageni earns at the station—Maina pockets Ksh1.5 million every month.
Before joining Kiss FM, Jalang’o was working at Milele FM alongside Mwakideu. His monthly salary was Ksh750,000. He replaced Andrew Kibe who was pocketing Ksh700,000 per month.
However, Obinna isn’t paid the same salary as the man he replaced – Jalang’o. But for sure he earns at about Ksh600,000 there in.
Shaffie Weru used to be paid Ksh682,500 by Radio Africa Group before he was unceremoniously fired.
Jalang’o earned Ksh1.2 million salary because he also brought in a lot of revenue to his employer, he is such an asset that Radio Africa Group offered him his job back in case he loses Langata parliamentary election.
The former Kiss FM presenter revealed that his former bosses at Radio Africa Group were reluctant to let him go. Jalas said they made him sign a contract that will keep his job if he fails in his quest to be Langata MP.
