In a poignant return to the stage, legendary hip-hop/reggae artist Nazizi Hirji is ready to reclaim her place in the spotlight at the upcoming Blankets and Wine Festival this December.
Following the tragic loss of her young son, Jazeel Adam, last Christmas, Nazizi has been on a profound journey of healing, and this performance marks a significant milestone in her recovery.
Nazizi’s world turned upside down when her three-year-old son passed away during a family vacation in Tanzania on December 25, 2023.
The grief was so overwhelming that she stepped away from live performances altogether, leaving a gaping void in her life and career.
Yet, in August, she found the strength to return to music with shows in Uganda, an experience she credits with reigniting her spirit.
“It had been nine long months away from music since my Jiji left,” she revealed. “I couldn’t even listen to songs, let alone think about performing. Uganda made my heart beat again. It felt like I was truly alive for the first time.”
As she gears up for her appearance at the Blankets and Wine Festival on December 22, just three days prior to her son’s first commemorative anniversary, Nazizi will reunite with her longtime friend and collaborator, Wyre The Love Child.
Together, they form the iconic duo Necessary Noize, and their performance promises to be a powerful tribute to love, resilience, and the healing power of music.
This special edition of Blankets and Wine will showcase an impressive all-Kenyan lineup, spotlighting Notable acts such as the innovative rapper-singer Nyashinski, the contemporary hip-hop collective Wakadinali, the Afro-house sensation Idd Aziz from the Kenyan Coast, and rising indie soul star Njerae.
Nazizi’s comeback is not just about music; it’s a heartfelt homage to her son, symbolizing strength in vulnerability and the joy of reuniting with her passion.
