A man is accused of failing to pay his bills after hosting some friends for his birthday party in a restaurant in Nairobi.
40-year old Adrian Nderitu was charged in court for failing to paying the bills amounting to Kshs. 17, 250.
“You are charged that on August 22, 2021, at Cellars Grill Bar and Restaurant within Nairobi county with intent to defraud, you obtained goods from Boniface Shivonje Araka amounting to Ksh17250 that you would pay through Telcom Money a fact you knew to be false,” the charge sheet read.
Nderitu was arraigned before Nairobi chief magistrate Francis Andayi where he pleaded guilty to the charges. He however told the court that he sent someone to clear the bill before he was arraigned in court.
The accused was however released on a Kshs. 10, 000 bail after the complainant failed to show up in court.
It is alleged that Nderitu visited the joint on August 21, 2021 and enjoyed himself before requesting for services the following day during his birthday celebration.
On august 22, 2021 the accused came to the hotel and ordered for food and beverages which he promised to pay via mobile money.
Nderitu is said to have arrived at the hotel at 8 am in the morning and ordered for drinks as he waited for his friends who came by later.
His guests were treated with food and drinks just as he had requested. Nderitu said that he would pay the bills through PDQ (Processing Data Quickly). The hotel however did not have the machine to facilitate the payment which forced the management to organize for one.
Time passed and Nderitu changed his mind about the mode of payment saying that the bills would be paid via Telecom money which turned out to be a lie.
