Nadia Mukami was among a handful of Kenyan musicians who curtain raised for Bongo singer Mbosso when he performed in Mombasa.
The celebrated Tanzanian singer headlined Bright A Future 2 concert that was held in Mombasa on Saturday December 18th.
Local artists including Nadia Mukami, Susumila, Masauti and others were hired to curtain raised for Mbosso at the Mombasa concert.
The event was without drama. It emerged that Nadia Mukami and Masauti were roughed up while performing at the Mombasa concert.
Nadia says despite being mishandled, they decided to leave the stage in peace because they did not mean to cause chaos at the event which was organized by radio personality Willy M Tuva.
“Tulitolewa platform… Masauti alikuwa anasema ‘kuna nyimbo yangu ya mwisho sijawahi perform…acha niperform. mnanitoa stage na sijaperform nyimbo wangu (We were removed from the stage despite Masauti’s plea to be allowed to perform his last song),” she narrated amid laughter.
Those present at the event claimed that though Nadia was allowed to perform five songs, she was constantly put under pressure by the organizers to leave the stage.
The incident comes amid a recent push by Eric Omondi to stop local artists from curtain raising for foreign musicians.
The comedian has been demanding that Kenyan artistes should not be used as curtain-raisers whenever foreign artistes are performing locally, he is also demanding 75% airplay of Kenyan music by local TV and radio stations.
