“My Mother Was In Controlled Of All The Money I Made” Aslay Opens Up

Bongo singer Aslay revealed that for a long time he had no control over the money he earned from his music.

Aslay shot to fame in July 2014 when he was still just a kid. His song ‘Nakusemea ( Naenda Kusema )’ became a big hit, earning him fame across East Africa.

Speaking during a recent interview with Millard Ayo, Aslay revealed that his mother was in charge of his finances when he debuted as a musician at a young age.

Aslay revealed that he built a house for his parents before his mother’s death when he was only 13 years old.

“I built a house and finished everything fresh and now my father is staying with… because my father just got married and has another woman, my younger brother has also gotten a child too. I was able to build a house for my parents when I was 13 years old at the time. I built a house because my mother and father were living together,” he said.

The singer said that his mother’s influence during that period greatly contributed to the decision to build her a home first, contrary to what some young artists do when they become famous.

“I don’t have the power to say I would buy my car or buy my house first while I was there because my mother was in control of everything. In other words, even if I lied to her, I made a show, I got, I don’t know, 200k, she tells me to send 180k first and then keep the 20k because during that period she knew that this child has no big use and can’t do anything,” he said.

Aslay added that the influence of his mother ensured that he had invested in real estate projects because without her he would probably have spent money on temporary things.

“I can say that I have built myself but with the great strength of my mother Mariam, a mother cannot always be bad in any interpretation you can think of.

“My mother was a good person and she liked to see my success, even though until she passed on I don’t think she benefited much from my sweat.

“I have come to achieve great success when my mother has already passed away, but my mother was a person who loved to see her son reach certain places,” Aslay said.
