Media personality Mwalimu Rachel cut all ties with ‘Wamlambez’ hit makers Sailors in 2020, a move that doomed the music career of the Gengetone music group.
Mwalimu Rachel issued a statement indicating that she would no longer book Sailors for any gigs in a post on social media.
The media personality further said she will instead focus on introducing new talents through her company MRX Media.
“We are pleased to have played a major Role in the Building of the Brand and proud of our people in amplifying the voice of the Kenyan Youth. As we expand, Sailors 254 will no longer be represented by Us, and we cannot wait to introduce fresh, brilliant Talent to the world moving forward,” she said in the post.
Rachel, who managed Sailors for over two years, fell out with the group in 2019 and held on to all the passwords to their social media platforms.
She also denied Sailors access to their YouTube channel, which had all their previous songs and millions of video views.
Sailors said that Mwalimu Rachel demanded Ksh1.5 million from the group before she could release the passwords, an allegation she did not deny, saying the group and their current handlers needed to pay her for her input in building and popularizing their brand.
The fate of Sailors was once again discussed on social media this January 2022 after a curious fan sought to inquire why the music group has been so quiet.
Through an Instagram post, a seemingly agitated Sailors’ Peter Miracle Baby responded by saying that no one should ever ask him such stupid questions since the whole word just watched them as everything was taken away from them.
Mwalimu Rachel became a subject of discussion on social networking platforms as section of netizens blamed her for sabotaging Sailors’ music career.
Critics turned their guns on Mwalimu Rachel accusing her of exploiting the young artists for her own personal gains.
However, Rachel gave a classic response to accusations of sabotaging the ‘Wamlambez’ hit makers.
She fired back at her detractors by introducing a new artist signed by her company MRX Media. She encouraged her fans to follow the artist.
