“Many Things Didn’t Make Sense” Victoria Rubadiri Reflects On Becoming A Mother At 18

Victoria Rubadiri gave birth when she was just 18 years ago yet her father was a pastor and a religious leader.

The Citizen TV anchor reflected on her past in a lengthy post on social media, touching on the experiences that really shook her life.

She wrote;

‘You don’t have the privilege of viewing your current circumstances through the lens of your future knowledge. You can only live through the pain of your present situation.’

-Paraphrasing @stevenfurtick from one of his messages I heard today.

It’s tough to accept, especially when you are in the middle of a storm. I mean who doesn’t want to know how it ends, or that everything will be OK.

We literally live life by faith, because the reality is we really do not know what will happen next. Yes, we can pray, hope and plan, but what the future holds is only known by One. (Remember we lived through a pandemic that no one saw coming)

Our stories, our lives will always make sense backwards. Many things did not make sense at the time I was experiencing them.

To be honest, I wanted to sit out this game called life and handover to a substitute to play for a while. That was never an option though. So I kept playing.

And what keeps me going is now seeing my past circumstances through the lens of my current knowledge. I’m OK now even though I didn’t know it back then. It all worked out for my good, well, up until this point at least.

So don’t stop. Keep going. Your future self is waiting to read this chapter.

Happy New Month good people!!!

One of the most trying moment in Victoria Rubadiri’s life was when she got pregnant as a teenager. In a past interview she admitted that it took her long to embrace motherhood.

She had it rough back then as she was considered a disappointment to so many.

With her father being a pastor and a religious leader, Victoria fought for a long time with embracing the identity of being a mother because she felt she wasn’t ready.

Speaking on Double X Agenda, the Citizen TV anchor said teenage motherhood came with a lot of titles and opinions about her situation.

“For me, because I got pregnant young, I fell into the stereotypical definition of a young single mum. For me, what I had to let go of what was that tag of a typical single mum. And let go of it not only from society but for me.

“I made a conscious decision early on that I will not be that and the choice I would make to who I am now basically determined that.”

Victoria said she wasn’t going to let being a young and single mother define her, her daughter Neema and her future. She wanted to grow out of that title.
