A man from Kakamega county has been sentenced to jail for a lifetime after he was found guilty of defiling a baby.
Hilary Zitendi is said to have defiled the 18-month old baby on June 24, 2018.
Kakamega senior magistrate Eric Malesi found the accused guilt of defilement and an alternative count of committing an indecent act on a minor, contrary to the Sexual Offences Act.
“He will serve a life sentence for the offence committed which is contrary to Section 8(2) of the Sexual Offence Act and an alternative of committing an indecent act on a minor contrary to Section 11(1) Sexual Offence Act,” the magistrate ruled
Zitendi committed the offence when the mother of the baby left her home and her child under the care of a guardian for a meeting in a nearby homestead.
She then heard some noise from her home prompting her to rush and check what was going on only to find her baby in pain and bleeding.
She filed a report at a nearby police station and investigations led to the arrest of Zitendi.
Elsewhere, a nurse from Yatta in Machakos county was arrested for impregnating a 14-year old girl.
It is alleged that the nurse defiled the student in September last year when she had gone to seek medical attention at the Kimutwa dispensary where the nurse was attached.
The nurse is said to have disappeared after the girl’s parents learnt that she was pregnant. He later got a transfer to another dispensary in Kitini area.
