Maina Kageni and Diamond Platnumz are good friends but in 2020 their friendship was put to test as the Classic FM presenter went slow on playing songs by the Bongo singer.
The standard of music quality by Diamond went down in 2020 – this according to his friend Maina Kageni.
Speaking during an interview with Mpasho, Maina revealed that he went slow on playing Diamond’s songs for almost a year because he felt his song were subpar.
“When he went the Gidi and Jeje he thought it was working and forgot there were people who loved him for his singing. That man can sing. For one year I played very little music of Diamond.I told him (Diamond) I did not like the direction he was taking, if a song is bad I tell it to your face,” said Maina Kageni.
The Classic FM presenter further explained why he does not play poor quality music whether it belongs to Diamond or any other musician.
He however noted that Diamond has regained his mojo, he expressed his approval for his new EP ‘First Of All’.
“I love his new album, he has done a lot of singing. We are a station that sings a lot of melodies, songs people can sing along to. I only played Harmonize’s ‘Never Give Up’ song once and told him it is rubbish.”
