Citizen TV anchor Lulu Hassan and her husband, media personality Rashid Abdallah, have publicly backed Hassan Joho, the nominee for the Mining, Maritime Affairs, and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary position, following his recent vetting by the National Assembly Committee on Appointments.
On Sunday, Lulu took to Instagram to congratulate Joho on his performance during the vetting process, expressing her pride with a heartfelt message.
“Super proud of you Kaka mkubwa … Mungu akutangulie (Super proud of you Big Brother… May God go before you).”
Interestingly, she chose to disable comments on her post, possibly to avert any potential controversy or negative feedback.
Rashid Abdallah added to the support by sharing a video on his social media platforms that highlighted a significant moment from Joho’s vetting session. During this session, Joho addressed concerns regarding his educational background and suitability for the role, emphasizing that individuals from the Coast region often face skepticism and prejudice.
“Many people from the Coast are underrated and doubted,” Joho stated. Rashid echoed this sentiment, remarking on the persistent stereotypes faced by people from the Coast: “Hii dhana imetufika wengi na haipendezi kwa kweli. Asante Joho kwa kuliweka hili wazi (This notion has reached many of us and it’s truly unpleasant. Thank you, Joho, for clarifying this).”
Both Lulu and Rashid’s endorsements come at a critical time as Joho’s nomination remains under scrutiny. The National Assembly Committee is expected to announce its final decision on Joho’s nomination in the coming days.
The couple’s support for Joho is not new; they are said to be friends of the former Mombasa Governor. A notable moment in their relationship came in 2021 when Joho surprised Rashid with a birthday cake delivered during a live news bulletin, highlighting their camaraderie.
