Lawyers Mwengi Mutuse And Karen Nyamu Should Be Appointed Judges Of High Court – Nelson Havi

Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has taken to social media with a tongue-in-cheek suggestion for the appointment of Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse and nominated Senator Karen Nyamu as Judges of the High Court.

His proposal comes in the wake of frustrations over the Judiciary’s slow handling of complex legal cases, which Havi contrasted with the swift impeachment process of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Havi pointed out that Parliament was able to resolve Gachagua’s impeachment within just seven days, while courts often take years to adjudicate similar matters.

He humorously suggested that the Judiciary could improve its efficiency by adopting Parliament’s expedited approach in handling cases of public importance.

“Judiciary should and must benchmark with Parliament on expeditious disposal of disputes,” Havi wrote on social media.

“If a complex case of this kind can be determined by Parliament within 7 days, why should the Court take 1 to 5 years to do so?”

Mwengi Mutuse, who spearheaded Gachagua’s impeachment, earned attention after he fumbled a lot during cross-examination at the senate.

Gachagua’s lawyers led by Elisha Ongoya had a field day probing Mutuse over the 11 impeachment counts that formed the basis of his removal from office.

Havi, in his ironic post, proposed Mutuse for a judicial role, lauding his “efficiency” during the proceedings.

Likewise, nominated Senator Karen Nyamu, who also played a role in the debate, was mockingly suggested by Havi for the same judicial post.

Nyamu, often viewed as a controversial figure, was even referred to as a “joker” by some Kenyans during the impeachment saga as she was seen casually sitting at the Senate during the trial.

However, Havi sarcastically noted that she, too, could be a suitable candidate for judicial consideration.

Havi’s proposal has sparked laughter across social media, with many interpreting the suggestion as a playful jab at the legal qualifications and public perception of both Mutuse and Nyamu.

Despite the satirical tone, his comments have reignited discussions about the speed and efficiency of Kenya’s judicial system compared to its legislative processes.
