5-year old Amanda Mutheu was a rising star, having featured in skits with Eric Omondi and Willy Paul. Additionally, she was an upcoming skater.

On Wednesday night, her life was cut short by a drunk uncle who threw her off the balcony of their home in Jacaranda estate, Kasarani.

“She was a very bright girl. Even if she was here, she would be speaking better English than me. I have known her since she was young,”Peter Ijono, a guard at the estate told the media.

On the fateful evening, a joyful Amanda was seen playing. She would then take a bath shortly before the horrific incident occurred.

“She had her little towel around her and the house help was selecting clothes for her. That is when the uncle came to the bathroom, grabbed the child and hit her. The house help rushed to help, he pushed her away and Amanda was able to rush to the sitting room and that is when she lost the towel,” a female neighbour narrated.

“When he threw the child, I heard him shouting from the balcony that he was coming to meet me and the child through the wall like spiderman,” the guard said on the other hand.

When the suspect came down, Peter said that he held her legs and hit her on the floor again.

“I pushed him to separate him from the child,” he said, adding that the uncle began claiming that he didn’t throw a child but a doll.

Amanda was rushed to hospital with severe injuries but she did not make it hours later and was pronounced dead. An autopsy on her body indicate that she died from blunt force trauma  on the head which are consistent with a fall from a height and repeated assault.

The suspect is currently in custody with authorities saying they will ensure that justice is served to Amanda’s family.
