Former Standard Media Group journalist Evelyne Mong’ina Ogutu died at a city hospital moments after delivering twins through the cesarean section on November 11, 2022.
Journalists across the country raised Ksh2 million for Ogutu’s funeral and to help her husband raise their newborn twins as well the couple’s two other kids.
The deceased was married to veteran journalist and editor David Okwemba who served as a regional editor at British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and investigations editor at the Star.
Ogutu’s body was ferried to Tran Nzoia county for interment after a requiem mass in Nairobi.
The late journalist is set to be laid to rest at her husband’s Simatwet home in Kitale. The funeral will be held today, Saturday November 26.
The Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) alumnus was hailed as an industry mentor and devoted friend.
She played a crucial role in the founding of the Instinct and Eve Woman publications, which will be remembered in the media world.
