Those in the entertainment have suffered the most since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is after the government banned public gatherings to control the spread of the virus.
The entertainers depended on these gatherings to earn a living by performing in public places. The ban, therefore, closed their source of income leaving them broke.
To survive the hard times, the entertainers have turned to the public to help them raise money. They have asked members of the public to help them raise money for various reasons.
Some of them have asked the public to help them pay their rents, build their houses, start a business for them or help them raise a medical bill.
Here are some of the celebrities who have sought financial help from members of the public;
Nyashinski
Nyashinski is the latest celebrity to ask for financial assistance from his fans. The award-winning musician asked well-wishers to help him raise Ksh.10 million for his sister-in-law’s medical bills.
Nyashinski noted that the family needed financial help to help his sister-in-law, Janet Karoney, undergo treatment for a rare blood condition known as Severe Aplastic Anaemia.
Following the condition, the musician’s sister-in-law bees a bone marrow transplant.
“Unfortunately, this cannot be done in Kenya as there is no hospital that provides the service and we have to ensure that she leaves the country to seek medical attention,” the musician said wrote on his Instagram account
“We are appealing for funds as her family and friends to help get the treatment she urgently needs,” he added.
Omosh
Omosh is no stranger to this list. Earlier this year, the former Tahidi High actor, on two separate occasions, came out asking for financial help from Kenyans.
On the first occasion, the actor appeared on a local YouTube channel asking Kenyan to help him fend for his family and pay for his rent after losing his job at Tahidi.
The second time the comedian come out now asking the public to raise money to buy a camera and a tripod stand. He claimed that the money he was given in the first request was not enough.
Mrs. Ngatia
Just like her husband, Omosh, Judy Wacuka aka Mrs. Ngatia has also asked the public for financial assistance. For the first time, Mrs. Ngatia asked the public to help her raise schools fee for her child.
The second time, she asked the fan to help her build a house. She claimed that her husband’s second wife took the three-bedroomed house Kenyans had built for them.
“If I get a house, even a one-bedroom Mabati house so that I am not bothered by paying rent in Nairobi. I am asking for even a Mabati house, right now, I live in a bedsitter that I pay Ksh 5,000,” Mrs. Ngatia told a local YouTuber.
Cindy
In April this year, former Machachari actress Clara Wamaitha Ngethe alias Cindy or Mama Stella came out asking for financial help from members of the public.
The actress asked Kenyans to help her raise money to start a business and cater for her medical bills. Speaking to YouTuber HIran Maina, Cindy revealed that she was suffering from vitiligo – loss of skin-coloring cells.
She revealed that since the government imposed covid-19 restrictions, she has been grounded and cant earn a living therefore she depends on her daughter to get her treatment.
“Sisi kama wasanii tumekuwa grounded for some time, so nimekuwa nategemea daughter wangu, Maggy. Hakuna hospitali sijakanyaga,” she told the YouTuber.
Cindy revealed that she had to bear the huge cost of her treatment despite the fact that she had no job nor income.
