Former Papa Shirandula actress Joy Kawira has opened up about how she experienced abuse in her five-year marriage.
Speaking during an interview with Massawe Japanni on Radio Jambo, Kawira painfully recalled how she went through many hardships in her broken marriage.
The Vioja actress told the court that one day her ex-husband followed her to work at the radio station and slapped and kicked her.
Kawira, who at that time was hosting a night program on the radio, said that her husband followed her that night to the offices of the radio station and beat her to a pulp.
The actress said that after her ex-husband beat her at night, when even the night watchman who was there could not help her, she gathered herself and went back to the studio and continued with the show.
“Nilikuwa nimeenda kwa mama yangu, lakini nilimwambia niko kazini. Alinipiga tukiwa kwa lift za ofisi. Kulikuwa na security guard pale lakini hakufanya chochote,” Kawira said.
Later, when she finished the session, she left and went to sleep elsewhere for fear of returning to her husband’s house.
Kawira, whose marriage broke up last year after being married for 6 years, said that her ex-husband was physically assaulting her.
“Ni mtu mwerevu, alikuwa ananipiga mahali hutabaki na ushahidi. Ulimi wake ni mtamu, ata ungesema mimi ndiye mwenye makosa,” she said.
“Watu wachache wenye nliongea nao kanisani walikuwa wananiambia kwamba mwanamke ni kuvumilia,” she added.
