Kate Actress, has taken a strong stance against defamation in the wake of her highly publicized breakup with her former husband, Philip Karanja.
Kate Actress, through her legal representative, Waithera Ngugi, has issued a demand letter to Tuko Media for their TUKO Extra segment on YouTube, in response to defamatory remarks made against her following the breakup.
In the demand letter, Ngugi argued that TUKO Extra, through its YouTube channel segment titled ‘Chat with Lilly,’ allowed Hussein Yusuf, one of the contributors on the show, to make defamatory statements concerning Kate Actress. These statements, according to Ngugi, were made publicly and with the intention of portraying her client as an immoral person.
The show in question, ‘Chat with Lilly,’ typically discusses trending topics of the week. However, Kate Actress’ legal team contends that the show’s clear intent was to damage her long-standing career by dishonoring, humiliating, and tarnishing her well-established reputation.
Kate Actress’s lawyer is now demanding that Tuko issue a clear public apology and retraction of the statements. This apology, as per Ngugi’s instructions, should be circulated to Kate Actress and all of Tuko.co.ke’s official social media platforms and must be permanently published.
The demand letter sets a 14-day deadline for the media to comply with these demands. It also warns that failure to do so will result in Kate Actress proceeding with legal action, with the media outlet bearing the risk of costs and other incidental expenses.
The legal dispute arises in the aftermath of Kate Actress and Phil’s announcement of their divorce on September 19. In a joint statement, the former couple revealed that they had parted ways some time ago and requested privacy for the sake of their children.
In response to the divorce announcement, Phil emphasized that he and Kate Actress would remain friends and business partners moving forward, seeking to minimize public speculation and interference in their personal lives.
