Activist Kasmuel McOure has finally addressed the swirling controversy surrounding his failure to speak out against the brutal attack on fellow activist Morara Kebaso at Bomas of Kenya.
Kasmuel claimed he was completely unaware of the violent incident at the time it took place, only learning about it after others informed him.
According to him, he was deeply engrossed in the public participation session for Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment and had no idea what was happening outside the venue.
The activist also revealed that he didn’t even have access to his phone during the proceedings – his mobile had been handed over to TJ Kajwang’s bodyguard, leaving him cut off from any real-time updates.
“I didn’t see the attack happen, so I couldn’t comment on something I hadn’t witnessed or verified,” Kasmuel explained in an interview with Oga Obinna.
“I was entirely focused on the proceedings at Bomas. Plus, my phone was with the bodyguard, so I couldn’t check for updates even if I wanted to.”
Kasmuel also hit back at accusations that he had been bought off by the government to betray the Gen Z movement by endorsing Gachagua’s impeachment.
He firmly denied the claims, saying that his speech was simply a reflection of the general mood at Bomas, where most attendees were in favor of Gachagua’s removal.
“I wasn’t paid off by anyone,” Kasmuel insisted.
“I was listening to the people at Bomas, and the majority supported Gachagua’s impeachment. My original plan was to push for the ousting of both the Deputy President and the President.”
His remarks come after a storm of criticism on social media, where users accused him of turning his back on his activist roots and prioritizing political gain over his fellow activist.
