Karen Nyamu says she was in denial when she was told about her mother’s diagnosis because she knew there was no cure for the disease.
The mother of three opened up about her parents and her background while speaking during an interview on Gikuyu YouTube channel Reke Ciume Na Ene.
Nyamu talked about her humble beginnings in Nairobi’s Umoja estate before she became a prominent advocate and now a nominated senator.
She also talked about the heart-wrenching loss of her mother to cancer and shares cherished childhood memories, from sneaking out to go clubbing to even breaking into the school canteen, all while excelling academically.
Karen Nyamu revealed that she was raised by her dad for the better part of her teenage years after her mother died when she was only 17 years old.
She narrated that her mother had been sickly for years. She and her siblings never knew what was ailing her.
However, as her condition got worse, their father called them for a meeting and broke the news that their mom had cancer.
Karen said that since then, she has been in denial and has never completely healed from the tragic loss.
Luckily, her father was a supportive parent who motivated her to study hard. She credits her success to him.
She also credited her success to her spirit of working hard to achieve her goals in life.
Nyamu also spoke about how she handles the cyber bullying she faces due to her controversial relationship with married singer Samidoh. She firmly stated that she has grown a thick skin and learnt not to take harsh words said by haters seriously.
The mother of three proudly identifies as a free spirit, unbounded by limitations. Surprisingly to many, she also reveals her religious and softer side, making her journey all the more fascinating.
