Kalonzo Musyoka Shares Little Known Details About His Ailing Wife Pauline

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is hopeful that his wife Pauline will one day recover from her ailment and be able to walk on her feet again.

The opposition leader opened up about his wife’s health during an interview with TV47, sharing some of her details that are little-known to the public.

Here are 6 things Kalonzo opened up about Pauline.

She is a gospel singer

While admitting that his family loves music, and that Israel Mbonyi is one of his favourite composers, Kalonzo revealed that his wife is a gospel singer.

He added that Mbonyi serenaded his wife with a guitar performance during his tour to the country.

“The young man came and actually played a guitar to  my wife. People know that Pauline has been unwell. Israel Mbonyi came because my wife herself is a gospel singer. I think that is in the family, our son Klein is a very good composer, he would play the clarinet. I sing all types of songs even country music,” Kalonzo said.

Pauline met Kalonzo while she was in form 2

Kalonzo met Pauline when they were still in High school during a Christian Conference for students at Alliance Girls. He was in Form 5 in Meru  while Pauline was in Form 2 at Mulango Missionary School in Kitui.

Kalonzo and Pauline began a conversation because they were the only ones who were not speaking in tongues at the conference.

“From there of course it became a long story and the rest is history,” he said, remembering how Pauline would visit him at the university later..

She studied in India

Pauline proceeded to India to further her studies. Kalonzo on the other hand went to Cyprus. That was about 1978, after Jomo Kenyatta’s death.

She worked in the Ministry of labour in the 70s

Pauline worked in the ministry of labour under NSSF before she left the country for India.

They got married 1985

Kalonzo was elected first to parliament in 1985 as Kitui North MP. He was still a bachelor and only settled down with Pauline in December 1985.

The two had courted for 13 years before marriage.

Pauline is supportive

According to Kalonzo, Pauline would vote in his constituency despite coming from another constituency.

Kalonzo also said that if he was the one who is sick, Pauline would have taken better care of him.

“I can’t do enough for Pauline. All I can do is to give her comfort and to wish her[recovery]. A lot of friends have been praying for her recovery,” he said.

Kalonzo said that he has contemplated quitting politics because of his wife’s situation, but she wouldn’t allow it therefore leaving no doubts that even though she is sick, she supports her husband’s career.

“With a wife who has been unwell, the thought has crossed my mind several times—to quit politics and care for her. But I know Pauline wouldn’t allow it. She is a visionary; she knows where we’ve come from and what I still have to accomplish. So I keep going. Quitting is not an option,” he said.

The family is yet to disclose details about what is ailing Pauline to the public. The illness has however made her disappear from the public for years.
