Janet Mbugua wondered why so many people were disappointed about her pregnancy that they had to insult her.
The former Citizen TV anchor spoke about the challenges that she endured as a pregnant media personality in a recent interview.
Janet reflected on the incident that happened when she was still working at Citizen TV and pregnant with her first child.
She recalled how she was savagely trolled for anchoring news while she was pregnant.
“In 2015, while I was a news presenter on Citizen TV, and I was pregnant with my first child, I was attacked online, with a lot of hostility towards me for being pregnant,” Janet Mbugua said.
The mother of two added that most of her attackers asked her to stop reading the news and take a break until after her maternity leave.
She however noted that senior management at her workplace supported her throughout the process.
“Many comments were asking me to return to the news after my maternity leave. I found an amazing team and senior bosses who supported me,” Mbugua said.
The mother of two noted that this is just part of the many attacks women continue to face online regarding family involvement.
“It was one example among many, of online sexism, which millions of people, but especially girls and women, continue to face,” he said.
Mbugua made the disclosure ahead of the annual meeting of the International Gender Champions where she will be the Chief Speaker.
Among the issues that she is supposed to talk about was the increase in cases of online harassment.
