Comedian Felix Odiwuor, alias Jalang’o will refund the money fans had paid for the much anticipated Luo festival that was expected to happen this weekend.
Jalang’o has decided to refund the money after the government canceled the event after noting that the event would go against set Covid-19 containment measures.
Through the Ministry of Interior, the government asked the Kiss FM radio host to post the event until a later date when the spread of the virus is at a lower rate.
“Nairobi Region Security and Intelligence Committee has received your request to hold a Luo festival on 28th August 2021 at Carnivore Gardens from 10.00 – 21.30 hrs.
“After careful considerations of the prevailing Covid-19 Pandemic and the containment measures in place, the Committee hereby requests you to postpone the event until such a time when the current measures are reviewed in favor of physical/ in-person Public gatherings and meetings,” the ministry said in a letter to Jalang’o.
Responding to the government’s directive, Jalang’o noted that the event’s cancellation was sad for everyone starting from the fans, the artists, and other service providers. He will therefore start reimbursing the money he collected tickets to the fans.
“This moment is a sad one for us and a sad one to everyone who had booked a ticket to support this event, sad to the artists who practiced and were ready to entertain you, sad to all service providers and everyone who was involved!
We immediately start the reimbursement of all payments made, all tickets paid for, and every single loss we as @arenamedialtd will take,” he said.
While thanking everyone who helped him and his company for preparing for the event, Jalang’o said he would announce a later date when the festival will go down.
“I want to thank everyone who has always supported our event @luofestival; we want to thank God for keeping us alive to this moment, thank you to our sponsors and partners and mostly you, the fans of Luo Festival! Thank you! We will announce new dates, and soon we will share great moments again! I also want to thank the administrators and government who have walked with us through this journey to realize the success of this event, the presidency, the ministry of health, the ministry of interior and National coordination, and all the government officials who would have wanted this event to happen…Thank you!” he said.
