“Mnapost houses, cars, cash money alafu mnasema ni God!” “Kama walimu wanalipa tax, lazima mlipe, kitawaramba!”
Jalang’o has criticized content creators for their opposition to the proposed digital tax outlined in the Finance Bill 2023.
In a YouTube video, Jalang’o expressed his inability to defend content creators due to their well-known extravagant lifestyles.
Highlighting the luxurious lives led by personalities such as Eric Omondi, Mulamwah, Oga Obinna, Natalie Tewa, Vincent Mboya, Mungai Eve, Njugush, Abel Mutua, Nicholas Kioko, Akothee, Amber Ray, the Bahatis, and the Wa Jesus family, Jalang’o emphasized that their extravagant lifestyles come at a cost.
While acknowledging that some content creators have achieved success through their work, Jalang’o found it difficult to comprehend how they could amass millions and yet claim they cannot afford a 15 percent tax.
“You all have brought this upon yourselves, and I’m being honest with you, the government is not going to back down. What we need to do is unite and ask ourselves how much we are willing to earn in order to pay, or how can we communicate to them that sometimes we are simply flaunting our wealth,” he says.
President Ruto subsequently instructed the Finance and ICT Committee of Parliament to reevaluate the provision regarding the taxation of digital content creators, in the Finance Bill 2023.
The aim is to make it more lenient and allowing young people to continue earning a sustainable livelihood through their creative endeavors.
Jalang’o recently also posted a photo manifesting a brand new Range Rover that costs around 30 to 40 Million; talk of throwing stones, while living inside a glass house.
