Caroline Mutoko rose through ranks in Radio Africa Group having worked there for many years, but before that she did menial jobs like any typical hustler.
Mutoko is the current chief marketing officer (CMO) of Radio Africa Group. She has worked for the media house in various capacities including as Kiss FM radio presenter for many years.
Many people always though Mutoko has always been a white collar worker but surprisingly she did menial jobs before her big break.
Speaking during an interview on ‘Cleaning The Airwaves’, Caroline Mutoko revealed that her first job was a courier.
Renowned Kenyan media personality Caroline Mutoko has revealed that the first job she ever did was as a courier.
Mutoko said she believes there is no shame in taking any job that would provide you with the necessary exposure and experience.
“I finished form 4 on 28th of November and I was employed on 4th of December. Mrs Mutoko was not entertaining me idling around. I was bitter that everybody I knew was at home chilling. I used to work on Baricho road at Kirinyaga works. It was a printing and stationery firm. I received the phone, I did cash sales, I would fill in the time people came in,” Caroline Mutoko said.
She added that;
“I would calculate when people worked overtime, I picked up cheques and delivered invoices when they started trusting me more. I was a messenger.”
Caroline Mutoko said she secured her first job when she was about 18 years of age.
“I was about to be 18 at the time. I worked until I went to University but when we closed they would take me back. I have never said no to work because it does not look appealing. To every young person wherever you get a job take it, the networks you form are amazing.”
Speaking on her radio job, Caroline Mutoko said;
“I think for the longest time I worked from Sunday to Sunday. Even when I wasn’t on air, I remember the days I used to voice the classifieds with Eric Ndavi and Muthoni Bwika. Because we’re a new station. You can’t say we have finished work for today. So when Eric finishes writing the classified, we voice. That’s when we are done and with no pay.
“We’d do that and come back and there was something else to be done. We just work! I think until I stopped producing ‘Crossfire’, I worked Sunday to Sunday, even before I was on air.”
