Marya Okoth, the former partner of celebrated comedian YY, recently shared her thoughts on love, privacy, and lessons learned from relationships in a candid conversation on her YouTube channel.
Following her publicized split, Marya has adopted a more private stance on her love life.
“I will never have a public relationship,” she revealed, though with a cautious caveat.
She added: “But never say never. You can use my words against me, but… never.”
Marya is clearly determined to guard her personal life, hinting at the complications that can come with dating, especially under the public’s watchful eye.
She delved into the challenges of maintaining a relationship.
“Even if I had a boyfriend, ei, inakuwa ngumu. Sometimes it is really hard… heh, mnafanya hesabu ya minus kwa maisha yangu!” she joked, implying that dating brings unique pressures.
As for her current relationship status? Marya was quick to put any rumors to rest.
“If I had a boyfriend, you would see signs,” she teased.
Adding that: “But weh, sina mtu (I don’t have a boyfriend). I could say that, and people would start saying, ‘She’s gained weight, she’s happy, she has a boyfriend!’ No, people, I don’t have a boyfriend.”
Reflecting on her past experiences, Marya expressed a mature perspective on regrets and personal growth.
“I don’t dwell on regrets. I have had experiences that have not turned out the way I wanted them to, but to me, they are all lessons,” she shared, emphasizing the importance of self-acceptance.
Offering advice to her fans, she encouraged them to embrace mistakes as learning opportunities.
“Even smart people make mistakes. If you live with regret, you will keep beating yourself up, putting yourself down, and feeling like you are not good enough,” she said, adding that she has learned to appreciate the lesson in each experience and focus on growth instead.
In her closing remarks, Marya left fans with a message of resilience. “I don’t live with regrets, and I recommend that you don’t either. Don’t kick yourself and say ‘I failed.’ Just learn, grow, and move on.”
