Zari Hassan suffered childhood trauma and as a result it deeply affected how she raised her own five children as a single parent.
Childhood trauma is an event experienced by a child that threatens their life or bodily integrity. Physical or sexual abuse, for example, can be clearly traumatic for children. [sic]
The disturbing experience Zari went through as a child had a lasting shock in her life.
The mother of five opened up about her troubled childhood while responding to a video recorded by a Kikuyu actress and comedian called Mama Edu.
In the video, the actress was talking about how 21st century parents don’t discipline their children unlike how it used to be in past.
According to Mama Edu, back in those days, a child belonged to the community, and when he or she did something wrong, they could be punished by anyone in the society.
In the current generation, if one punishes another person’s child, it becomes a police case.
When Zari saw the video she reacted by admitting that she was guilty as charged.
She confirmed what Mama Edu was saying to be true because she does not discipline her children.
Zari explained that the trauma she endured as a result of being punished by the whole community made her raise her own children without ever punishing them.
“Shuuuu guilty as charged, sijui ka Baba, ka princess…the whole community where I grew up literally whopped my a** won’t even lie about this. After giving me a beating I was dragged to my parents who made it worse. Chaiii, gone are the days,” wrote Zari.
