Bien received Ksh 14,634 from MCSK as many top Kenyan artists got their royalties some down to hundreds.
Over the years, there have been concerns raised by musicians about the transparency and accountability of MCSK in the collection and distribution of royalties.
There have been allegations of mismanagement, embezzlement, and lack of proper record-keeping. As a result, in 2017, the Kenya Copyright Board suspended MCSK’s license to operate as a CMO, citing non-compliance with the Kenyan Copyright Act and regulations.
Despite these challenges, MCSK continues to operate, and efforts have been made to address the issues raised by musicians.
The organization has been implementing reforms, such as digitizing its operations and improving its transparency and accountability mechanisms, to restore confidence in its operations but the royalties remain a big issue.
Bien shared a M-Pesa message showing the amount he received. It’s not clear if the amount belongs to Sauti Sol as a group or himself.
In the comments, a lady named Chebet was advertising her videos in exchange for money and when Bien noticed it, he replied that the money is not to be spent on such videos.
