Veteran athlete Hellen Obiri of Kenya Airforce who recently won a silver medal in Tokyo has been promoted to the position of senior sergeant.
While congratulating Hellen Obiri, Chief Of Defense Forces of the Kenya Defence Forces General Robert Kariuki Kibochi said they were proud to be represented by Obiri and Sergeant Benjamin Kigen in Tokyo, Japan.
“I congratulate the Kenya Defence Forces athletes who represented the country in the just concluded Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Senior Sergeant Hellen Obiri finished second clocking 14:38.36 in the women’s 5000m final grabbing Silver Medal while Sergeant Benjamin Kigen finished third in the Men’s 3000m Steeplechase final posting a time of 8:11.45 bringing home Bronze Medal.
“I know they achieved this through hard work, resilience and discipline in their training and therefore purpose to mentor more junior athletes.I once again congratulate SSgt Obiri and Sgt Kigen for representing Kenya and the entire Kenya Defence Forces in the world sporting arena. Keep it up!
