In a revealing interview with media personality Rajab Zawadi, actress Jackie Matubia has candidly shared her reasons for ending her first marriage to Kennedy Njogu in 2019.
The former Tahidi High star confessed that her ex-husband wished her to adopt the role of a stay-at-home wife, a concept that did not resonate with her spirited ambitions.
Jackie disclosed that her ex-spouse preferred she forgo her professional pursuits, which clashed with her inherent desire to forge her own path.
“I was accustomed to being out there, hustling for my money. That’s just not who I am,” she reflected.
While Kennedy ensured she lacked for nothing, even gifting her a car and securing a comfortable home, it was the constraint of domesticity that she found unbearable.
“I was married to a man who provided everything without me needing to ask. Yet, there was a catch,” Jackie explained.
“He envisioned me as a stay-at-home wife, which felt like a stifling cage for someone like me, who has always been inclined to work and pursue my ambitions,” she added.
Despite the luxuries her marriage afforded her, including financial stability for everyday necessities, Matubia found herself yearning for independence and fulfillment in her career.
“I wasn’t lacking anything; he even covered my essentials like sanitary pads! But deep down, I felt like I had pressed pause on my life for someone else,” she admitted.
As a mother of two, Jackie recognizes that the role of a housewife can be rewarding for many.
However, for her, it was a role that generated conflict.
“Being a housewife is admirable for many, but for those of us with fiery ambitions and a vision to chase, that’s where the friction began,” she stated, ultimately leading her to file for divorce and reclaim her independence.
At 34, Jackie Matubia remains steadfast in her pursuit of personal and professional growth, inspiring others to embrace their ambitions regardless of societal expectations.
