In a candid new interview on the Iko Nini podcast, gospel singer Guardian Angel, 35, revealed details about his romance with wife Esther Musila, 54, emphasizing that he wasn’t on the hunt for a life partner when they crossed paths.
The couple, who has been married for over three years, defied expectations when Guardian Angel shared that he wasn’t even contemplating marriage at the time they met.
The singer took a moment to address misconceptions surrounding their relationship, particularly the notion that he sought motherly affection from Esther, who is older than him.
“I can’t say I was desperate for a mother,” Guardian Angel explained, highlighting that he experienced ample maternal love from his own mom and wasn’t trying to fill that void with a partner.
Though he had opted against marriage, things took a swift turn after their initial encounter. Just two weeks later, Guardian Angel and Esther were living together, and he was captivated by her profound support for his life and career, especially his music.
“Our relationship was like we just met, but she was so passionate about my music and my life,” he said, noting that such genuine care is hard to find.
What started as a desire to keep things friendly quickly evolved into something deeper.
Guardian Angel initially aimed to cultivate a platonic friendship, but their connection blossomed rapidly, particularly after Esther proved her supportive nature during one of his video shoots, leaving him impressed by her dedication.
He recounted a pivotal hug they shared that ignited a spark between them, leading to a conversation about their feelings just days later.
Despite her initial reservations about how their relationship might be perceived, Esther felt a strong bond and gradually warmed up to the idea.
Guardian Angel reassured her, saying he was ready to pursue their love without being influenced by the opinions of others.
“I don’t care what people are saying, you feel how?” he said, emphasizing his desire to prioritize their connection.
Family dynamics weren’t without challenges, however.
Guardian Angel admitted that his mother had a tough time accepting news of their relationship, particularly since she learned about it through social media rather than directly from him.
“Her first reaction wasn’t great because she found out online,” he shared, adding that after they spoke, she came to understand their love.
Esther’s children also had an adjustment period upon learning about their mother’s new relationship, feeling some tension initially since they hadn’t been informed beforehand.
But over time, their apprehensions faded, and Guardian Angel expressed relief that the family has since come together.
“They realized this is something good, and now we have a relationship,” he said.
In a lighthearted moment, Guardian Angel quipped that any motherly love from Esther was simply an added benefit, underscoring the authentic bond they share.
The couple continues to thrive in their partnership, proving that genuine connections can evolve in unexpected ways.
