On Thursday, 26, the government exposed Deputy President William to danger after replacing his highly-trained security officers with Administration Police (AP).
In a video seen by Kenya Report, the highly trained General Service Units are seen evacuating the Deputy President’s official residence in Karen.
According to sources, the withdrawn GSU officers have been reassigned to President Uhuru’s teams. The officers are therefore required to vacate Ruto’s premises as soon as today evening.
The move to withdraw Ruto’s security team is peculiar as the law requires that any Deputy President, the President, and any presidential candidate be assigned highly trained police officers as they pose a risk to national security.
According to the National Police Service Act, 2011, ” the Unit (Kenya Police) should provide security and protection to His Excellency the President, the First Family, retired Presidents, His Excellency the Deputy President, visiting Heads of State and Governments and any other V.I.P. as may be directed by the Inspector-General.”
The move by the government to withdraw the GSU officers from Ruto’s residence is likely to expose him to a lot of danger after as the APs have not been highly trained as their outgoing partners to handle any threat that might come on the way of the country’s second in command.
Other than exposing DP Ruto to an insecurity threat, the move by the government is unlawful and against the constitution.
