Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has unveiled his political strategy, expressing confidence that he will outmaneuver both President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga in the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the ACK Holy Trinity Church in Kitengela on Sunday, March 9, Gachagua asserted that his extensive political experience and strategic planning position him as the candidate to beat in the upcoming polls.
Gachagua emphasized his deep involvement in Kenyan politics since the country’s transition from a single-party system in 1992, stating that he has always made the right calculations.
“I have been in every succession since 1992, from the single-party system to the multi-party era. I have never gone wrong. I always do the right arithmetic,” he said.
Reflecting on past elections, Gachagua recalled the 2002 contest where he and his allies backed Uhuru Kenyatta despite knowing that he would not win.
“Even in 2002, when we backed Uhuru Kenyatta, we knew he would not win, but we were preparing him for the future,” he added.

Gachagua claimed that despite Ruto and Raila forming a political alliance, the opposition still holds a numerical advantage.
“From what I see going on, we will do well. I have never made the wrong calculation, and even now, we are not wrong. Looking at the quality of leaders that we have and their integrity, there are not many.”
He further stated, “They have joined hands, but we are still the ones with numbers in the opposition.”
Gachagua explained that he was deliberately delaying the launch of his political party to avoid early interference from President Ruto.
“I know you are worried that I am taking too long to make the announcement on the political party. The party is ready, but I cannot make the announcement yet,” he assured his supporters.
The former DP accused Ruto of being a shrewd political operator capable of sabotaging his plans.
“I know that guy (Ruto); he could come in anytime to mess up my plans,” he cautioned.
However, Gachagua reassured his supporters that his party would officially be launched in May 2025, with its national chairman coming from Kajiado County.
As Kenya’s political landscape continues to shift ahead of 2027, Gachagua’s confidence signals a fierce contest on the horizon. Whether his strategy will hold against the formidable duo of Ruto and Raila remains to be seen.
